The Barnum and Bailey Tree
Venice Beach, CA.
24" x 34", June 2003

In the garden district, the famous circus owners use to live across the walkway from each other. Barnum was definitely the main man, while his fond friend Bailey tended to muse his plans. As a symbol of his devotion and the fact that he could not purchase the lot directly across from Bailey's, Barnum angled his house in the lot to face Bailey's home. This was the tree that was planted between the two humble historic homes.
